About Us
Expanding The Table started serving in 2014.
In 2013, Ashley Ridge Church recognized a growing need in the Summerville community for access to free, hot meals throughout the week. Determined to reach people where they were, the church set out to fill gaps in meal services by bringing food directly to neighborhoods rather than expecting those in need to come to them.
By early 2014, that vision became Expanding the Table. The church purchased and transformed a retired coffee truck into a fully functioning mobile kitchen, creating a unique ministry that delivers hot, nutritious meals directly to communities across the Summerville area.
In October 2021, Expanding the Table became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, allowing us to expand our impact and better serve our community. Today, our food truck serves approximately 200 meals each week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with plans to continue expanding to additional days and locations.
Over the years, Expanding the Table has grown into much more than a meal program. Since 2022, we have served well over 50,000 meals while building lasting relationships with the individuals and families we serve.
At Expanding the Table, we believe a hot meal is just the beginning. Every meal is served with compassion, dignity, and hospitality. As we get to know our guests, we listen to their stories, learn about their needs, and connect them with valuable community resources. Our volunteers carry information for more than 50 local organizations that provide assistance with food, housing, healthcare, employment, social services, and other essential needs.
Our mission has always been about more than feeding people—it is about building relationships, restoring hope, and offering a hand up through the power of community.
Expanding The Table has many volunteer opportunities. Our Volunteers are the heart of our mission. They do everything from cooking to cleaning up after one of our meals. If you are interested in volunteering, you can find sign-up information listed for each role.
Expanding the Table was created to display the love of Jesus to all who join us at the table by meeting immediate needs and equipping guests with the tools they need to change their trajectory.
