About Us

Expanding The Table started serving in 2014.

In 2013 Ashley Ridge Church saw a growing need in the Summerville area for free, hot meals seven days a week. The church created a goal to fill in the missing gaps where food service was still needed. By quarter 1 of 2014, Expanding the Table was born. The goal was to take meals to people throughout Summerville, and not ask them to come to us. The church purchased and outfitted an old coffee truck into a hot kitchen on wheels. Over the years the mission has been wildly successful, serving well over 100k meals to date.

In October of 2021, Expanding the Table received approval as its own 501c3. Currently, the truck is serving approximately 200 meals per week on Fridays and Saturdays with the goal of expanding to more dates and locations to better serve those in need. Expanding the Table is about so much more than food. The volunteers lovingly serve a nutritious, hot meal, but also look to develop relationships with those in the community we serve. As Expanding the Table gets to know the guests, we learn more about their stories, and their needs, and work to connect them with numerous other resources within the community. The truck carries a list of over 50 different human services organizations that can help with a variety of needs from food, shelter, medical clinics, social services, and even job placements.

Expanding The Table has many volunteer opportunities. Our Volunteers are the heart of our mission. They do everything from cooking to cleaning up after one of our meals. If you are interested in volunteering, you can find sign-up information listed for each role.

Expanding the Table was created to display the love of Jesus to all who join us at the table by meeting immediate needs and equipping guests with the tools they need to change their trajectory.
